Website total cost calculator

Compare the first-year and ongoing cost of a website using your own quotes. A low setup price can conceal recurring software, hosting and maintenance costs.

First year = setup + 12 × (hosting + software + maintenance) + annual domain renewal. Ongoing year excludes setup. The default example gives $4,280 in year one and $1,880 in a later year.

Illustrative starting values. Inputs stay in this tab. Download saves a plain-text record on your device; it includes any URLs you entered.

Before you enter your numbers

  1. Use renewal prices, not introductory offers, for hosting and the domain.
  2. Put each recurring subscription in one category so the same service is not counted twice.
  3. Compare quotes over the same period and include the maintenance work each quote assumes.

A worked comparison

Quote A has $2,400 setup and $1,880 annual running costs: $8,040 over three years. Quote B has $1,200 setup and $2,500 annual running costs: $8,700 over three years. A costs $1,200 more to start but $660 less over this assumed three-year period. Scope and service quality still need a separate comparison.

Keep these assumptions with your result

  • Quote date and supplier
  • Pages and integrations included
  • One-time setup
  • Monthly hosting, software and maintenance
  • Annual renewal price
  • Excluded taxes, staff time and redesigns

Common questions

Should I enter the first-year domain promotion?

Use the annual renewal cost for a repeatable comparison. If the first year differs, calculate the promotion adjustment separately and keep the quoted renewal date.

Does a cheaper total mean a better website?

No. Compare content ownership, accessibility, support, integrations and the work included in maintenance alongside the arithmetic.

How the tool works

First year = setup + 12 × (hosting + software + maintenance) + annual domain renewal. Ongoing year excludes setup. The default example gives $4,280 in year one and $1,880 in a later year.

What the result does not tell you

This is a quote-comparison worksheet, not a market price estimate. Taxes, payment processing, advertising, internal staff time and unexpected redesigns are excluded unless you include them in your inputs.

Use the estimate responsibly

Replace the example values with records that cover the same period and scope. Save the input assumptions with your result so that another person can reproduce it. Change one assumption at a time to see why the result moves. Do not treat more decimal places as evidence that an estimate is more certain.
